Happy Independence Day Uncle Sam!

Sorry Sam, I know you wanted me to stop filming, but I got dizzy spinning around, and got caught up in the spirit of the 4th.

BTW -That’s the most excellent Eldridge Gravy and the Court Supreme playing live there in the background at Cal Anderson Park yesterday where we were giving away free root Beer Floats

…and I have good video of Eldridge Gravy and the Court Supreme performing yesterday also which I’ll post on SeattleTwist soon… jd

Meet at Noon, at the Kiddy Pool at the North end of Greenlake on Saturday, January 1st, 2011!

What a great way to get the New Year off on the right foot.

Luckily, wigs do offer some insulation from hangovers and there’s no need to fret about bad bed-head.

Rain-or-shine, umbrella’s & kids ok. Meet at the Kiddy Pool on the North end of the Lake at noon. I’m pretty sure we’ll all be pretty easy to spot.

A live comedy performance by Charles Phoenix, King of Retro, visiting the Seattle area from sunny Southern California.

Charles arrives with an entertaining live comedy performance that celebrates mid-century holiday life and style. With his unstoppable enthusiasm and wry, eagle eye for the very best and most bizarre of his massive collection of found-Kodachrome slides, Phoenix supercharges the classic living room slide show into a hysterical/historical celebration of American holiday life and style. It’s a 1950s & 60s New Years, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas jubilee that’s sure to get you in the mood for the all the holidays like you never have before! IN COLOR!

Live at the Kirkland Performing Arts Center. Buy tickets HERE!

The Georgetown Ballroom, that uber-groovy party space in Georgetown, hosted a splab holiday party with cocktail-culture inspired 9-piece new millennium lounge band LUSHY. If you haven’t been there, the Georgetown Ballroom is a must-see for lovers of vintage Seattle. Located in an old garage and the historic Mission Theater, it’s a massive space full of unusual signage from old shops and restaurants around the Seattle area, antiques, and a full-size aluminum Airstream-style trailer. Lushy was the perfect choice for the evening, with swingin’ music that blends original samples and Bossa Nova beats with elements of vintage- jazz, new wave, exotica, surf, sixties pop and French pop to create their own distinctive sound.

This Sunday offers some fine one-day shopping opportunities for those on your lists with tastes toward the “alternative.” Club Motor (SoDo) hosts the gothy “Mourning Market” from noon to 6pm, and the Transcendent Church of Bass (Interbay) hosts the “Bizarre Bazaar” from 3pm to 7pm. Both are free to attend and feature a good selection of local alternative artists and craft people.

Mourning Market 12/13/2009

“It all began at Crypticon ’09… A group of us sinister crafters had crossed paths before but had not yet been contained in one room. So at the end of three days filled with horror and zombie filled goodness, we said goodbye until next time. But when will that be I wonder? Portland’s community had many events for us to sell our wares. But we all call Seattle our home, so why is it all business and no fun?! Miss Ginger called on the ladies to attend Dark Tea where we plotted and schemed… Mourning Market was born!”

bizarrebazaar2009

“The Bizarre Bazaar is a community-supporting Alternative Market and Visionary Art Opening, featuring a variety of distinctive products created by local artists. We are turning the Transcendent Church of Bass into a market and filling it with art, crafts, clothing, and other epic loot. The Elixir bar will be open during the event, and downtempo DJ’s will add to the vibe. Please mark your calendars – it is free to attend, and everyone is welcome. It is a great opportunity for us to gather, connect, and support our artists by buying their creations so that they can continue to create art that is even more amazing.”
