This is the second annual ER Costume Crawl with a $500.00 grand prize for best costume! First Hill rounds up a great turnout for this artist fueled costume party, and all three destinations have great music and festivities planned – DJ Stack spinning records at the Hideout, Lushy performing at Vito’s and a haunted suite at the Sorrento to boot! It is a great party, with no cover charge, but you must be 21+ with proper id and you must be in costume – it’s just too crowded otherwise! Grab a room at the Sorrento and settle in for a wild and crazy time!

President Barack Obama celebrates his 50th birthday on Thursday August 4th, and we at OBAMA (The Official Bad Art Museum of Art) are celebrating in style with house band God’s Favorite Beefcake in the Obama Room.

The party starts at 8pm at Cafe Racer, located at 5828 Roosevelt Way NE in Ravenna/UW District.

Live music, yummy food, full bar, hijinks and bad art. What more would you want and what better way to celebrate President Obama’s birthday?

Saturday, July 2, Noon – 5 PM. This great free all-ages community celebration is Cal Anderson Park Alliance’s signature annual event. With four eclectic live bands, free root beer garden, Urban Family Photo Portraits, pie eating contest, pet/human look-alike contest, and feel-good, all-ages interactive fun. Everyone is invited: kids, hipsters, parents, friends, lovers, drag queens and all Capitol Hillsters.

Performances will take the Sunbowl Stage all afternoon, among them kids band the Not-Its, girl pop band Cumulus, indie/rock/pop Land of Pines, and one more to be announced. The CAPA Root Beer Garden will be handing out root beer floats until the ice cream’s gone! The Skillet truck will be there again this year, with other food vendors and more surprises to be announced in June.

Learn about the man behind the park in a brief biographical presentation as the Langston Hughes production of “People in Parks: Cal Anderson” performance is presented from the main stage. Be prepared: he’ll try to register you to vote!

PLUS: More free activities, including Spin Art Bike and Hoola Hoop Contest. And the childrens’ wading pool WILL be open on Picnic day!

In a wonderful holiday tradition, the Volunteer Park Conservatory will be open this Thankgiving, on Thursday, from 10am until 3pm. Manned (or womaned) by a core group of volunteers from the Friends of the Conservatory, this is a wonderful place to stroll before after the Thanksgiving day meal.

The Conservatory, a Victorian greenhouse modeled on London’s Crystal Palace, stands at the north end of Volunteer Park, designed by the Olmsted brothers, in Seattle’s north Capitol Hill neighborhood.

If you come, bring a camera to take photos of the kids and Grandma and Gramps among the bromeliads, palms, ferns, cacti, and seasonal display plants.

The show features an all-star dance company and live performances by renowned tribute artists, portraying Michael Jackson at different stages of his career, mastering his legendary singing/dancing to perform such hits as “Billie Jean,” “Beat It,” “Thriller” and more.
