STUDIES IN WHITE
EXPERIMENTAL ARTIST WORKING IN MOVEMENT & PERFORMANCE

Studies in White is an independent, full-day, event in Seattle. It
takes place 9AM–9PM on Saturday 16 January 2010 at COUNTERBALANCE PARK
in Lower Queen Anne. Artists will present studies lasting between half
an hour and 4 hours in length. Counterbalance Park in an open urban
area—clean, sparse and expansive. Artists presenting studies include
A. K. Mimi Allin, Danae' Clark, Vanessa Dewolf, Lainne Dexter, Kate
Freeman, Rudy Harper, Joan Laage, & Mylinda Sneed.

Studies in White is not an endeavor in finished, choreographed pieces.
It is a preparation for something else. Artists did not spend vast
amounts of time preparing, but rather envisioned and set into place
parameters for a STUDY and are partaking in those studies, publicly.

We welcome your participation:
(1) Waltzing in White at 5pm join in & dance your cares away in the park
(2) Writing in White at 6PM is an open writing exercise guided by
Vanessa DeWolf at Café Ladro
(3) Flashlight Chorus at 8PM is a participatory study with light in
the park. Bring a flashlight!

Thank you for your interest our studies. While we welcome your
presence, you should know we are filming, so entering the space
acknowledges your consent to be filmed.

Trolloween is the Birthday celebration for Seattle’s famous Fremont Troll.

October 31st is the Trolls 20th Birthday!

October 31st is the Trolls 20th Birthday!

It is held on his Birthday October 31st at 7pm sharp.
The celebration  starts with the Troll under the Aurora Bridge (Troll Ave & N 36th St), as he loves a good laugh and a great story.   Then revelers will be off for the annual Haunt of Fremont (a procession of costumed dancers & performers (& you) taking over the streets of Fremont.)

This 20th anniversary of the birth of the Fremont Troll, you’ll be experiencing the tale of  Dante’s Inferno. Many seasoned artists and performers will present their twisted and whacky version of this dark tale, known to us as: ‘Just a little lover’s spat ~ honey’.

Rain or dry, revelers will sing, dance, marvel, and laugh their way through the dark underbelly of Dante and Fremont.   This is an unsweetened and piquant family event with plenty of fun to scare the laughs out of any stoic kid or stogy adult.

Come dressed as your favorite dead celebrity and take part in our costume walk across the final stage, under the Fremont Bridge, for the appreciation of your community.

If you can lend a hand to help pull off this fabulous piece of street theater, meet by the Troll at 6:30pm & check in with the volunteer coordinator to get a job.

conflux2009

For those with a predilection for things dark and heathen, it’s well worth a trip down to Portland for the Conflux Dark Arts Festival this Friday and Saturday. Last year’s event was very strong and varied in musical and visual performances and deserved even a larger audience than it had. This year’s event features steampunk favorites Abney Park and Seattle goth veterans Legion Within among many other performances.

For information and tickets see the Conflux MySpace page.

(For additional photos of last year’s event, see Pete’s Conflux flickr set.)

Prague’s “Kulture Magazine” says of Degenerate Art Ensemble, “They entranced the audience… the secret of their performance is perfect drama, gradation and splendid visuals, indescribable costumes and a punk-symphonic-garage-big-band style. Dynamic upheavals were turning into relaxing passages and everything was falling into place like wheels in a post-modernist clock machine.”

Friday and Halloween Saturday, Oct. 30 and 31, at the Moore Theater.

Greetings all you vamps, tramps, flappers and philosophers! For the past year,
the Speakeasy has been bringing you back in time to an era of vision and vice,
prohibition and progress, crime and creativity. And for the past year many of
you have come to drink in the history, cool down your heels, and kick them up on
occasion.

And even as history repeats itself, the ingenuity of the American spirit in
having a good time and laughing in the face of economic turmoil remains intact.
Owing to that, each and every week the Speakeasy still comes on strong, and now
has made it to its first birthday!

So come on by to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the only night in the
West Coast that features 1920-30′s jazz/blues/rags/dancebands!
And if you’ve
been meaning to go and haven’t made it yet, well, you’ve missed over 50 chances,
but don’t worry, we’re a forgiving bunch! We’ll make it worth your while with
drink specials and some special giveaways, so drape some dapper threads and tip
along the stroll to the Rosebud!
