Benefit

Please read this important message from our friends at Ghost Gallery, which many of you know. We at Seattle Twist believe in supporting local artists, and worthy causes like this. It would be super cool if you could contribute a few bucks to them in this effort.

Flood Insurance Deductible

As many of you have already heard, we had a flood in the main front gallery and petite works room on Wednesday, Jan. 11th. All is cleaned up (Thank you Cait, Sophie & the Flood Crew!), but there was quite a bit of damage, both to some goods, books, antique furniture, electronics and some structural damage. Lots of little things adding up to be a big cost.
The building owners are refusing to take responsibility for the incident, therefore we’re scrambling to get everyone compensated and the ceiling repaired ASAP.

We do have Insurance, along with a very large deductible, which is where we really could use some fast help!
To make it fun, and a perk for you, here is the deal:

If 100 people each donate $10 (or more), we will have a party for all of you! DJ, Drinks, Dancing, Awesome.

Also, those who donate will EACH receive a Gallery Membership ($50 value), which gets you 20% off Boutique items, and 10% off Miniature Art for 1 year. (Out of town folks can have this honored with phone/online purchases)
If you’re already a member, then you will receive a bottle of wine on us, in addition to the party:)

Be sure to leave your full name along w/email address so I can make out your Membership Card.

We wouldn’t be here without all of you, so Thank You in advance!
Love,
Ghost

Do you love music? Do you want to help Japan?

So does Seattle vocalist, Barbara Ireland, and her musician friends, Robert Lee Mitchell, Rick Friel, Chris Friel, and S.E. Sharma. After watching heartbreaking news footage of the tragedies affecting Japan, Barbara felt moved to write this ballad to help raise funds for the relief efforts. Immediately her friends got on board to donate their time and musical talents.

This song is offered as a FREE DOWNLOAD to you.

All Barbara asks in exchange is that you make a donation to any of the three Japan Relief organizations at the top of her page. Let’s see how much we can raise for Japan!

Residue from SONG OF TENT CITY, the self-designed poetry residency started by poet Mimi AK Allin on 27 November at Tent City 3, will be installed at Tether Design Gallery in January. The show opens at 6pm on Thursday January 6 for the First Thursday Seattle Art Walk and will be on view through January 20th.

SONG OF TENT CITY | Gallery Show
Opens Thursday 6 January 2011 (6-8PM)
Tether Design Gallery
323 Occidental Avenue South
Seattle, WA 98104

The show opening will include installation, artifact, audio and live interaction. Get an idea of what ’its like to live at Tent City. Meet some of the residents. Sit inside the mini-yurt the poet has been living in. Read poetry and handwritten journal entries written by homeless people in Seattle. Listen to audio clips from artist collaborations between Seattle artists and Tent City artists.

Participating Seattle artists include Lyn Coffin, Josie Elizabeth Davis, Vanessa DeWolf, Ann Sloper and Sam Trout. Audio was graciously recorded and edited by the amazing, Christopher Wilson. Artists, on both sides of the fence, have donated their time and efforts to make this happen.

The greatest expenses for TC3 are transportation, honey buckets and trash removal. 100 people live at Tent City 3. When available, two bus tickets per day help campers get to appointments and seek employment. Donations can be made during the First Thursday opening at Tether Gallery to help Tent City residents.

Salon Metro in Wallingford is collecting toiletries for the Orion Center and Youth Care Transistional Living Program. The shelter requests unopened shampoo, conditioner. straighteners, curlers, razors, plus soap for faces and bodies. Full size or travel size from your last hotel trip is fine. Also, if you have unused makeup, please consider donating that for these homeless teens who are struggling to stay in school and find jobs.

You can drop off your donations at Salon Metro, located at 1714 N. 45th in Wallingford. Regular hours are Tuesday-Friday, 11-7pm, Saturday-Sunday 9am-3pm. There will be a drop-off box in the salon.

Items that would help teens and young adults to get back on their feet and be presentable for job interviews are needed: soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, brushes, combs, etc. You may even have received Christmas gifts that you would rather pass on, like perfume or make up.

This is a very easy way to help the homeless young people in our community and show them that we care. If you don’t have travel-size toiletries to donate, consider purchasing a couple of extra items when you are doing your own shopping and drop them off at Salon Metro. Specific hours may change slightly so you can always call first to check and make sure the donation box is staffed for that day or to make other arrangements for pick-up. Salon Metro’s phone number is 206-545-6905.

When a foster child turns 18, they are often forced out into the streets. The Orion Center, located at 1828 Yale Avenue in downtown Seattle, is a multi-service facility open to youth ages 13-22. It offers a safe, open place where youth can access a multitude of services from meals to case management. The Orion Center’s services include the Drop-in Center with showers, lockers, laundry and meals, a pre-employment training program; the Barista Training and Education Program, and Youth Tech.

The Round 62 featuring Star Anna, Damien Jurado and many more -

Sunday July 18, 5pm at the Woodland Park Zoo

Fremont Abbey Arts Center’s highly popular multi-arts event, The Round, steps outside up the hill from 43rd avenue in Fremont Village to perform at ZooTunes.

In its 62nd incarnation, this multi-arts collaborative show featuring live music, poets, painters, and an improv band will spotlight local favorite Star Anna. Born and raised in Ellensburg, WA, Star Anna is known for her alt country/folk sound and fiercely evocative vocal styling. Former Guns n’ Roses bassist and Seattle Weekly music writer Duff McKagan says of Star Anna, “She will be a talent that we can all say that ‘We saw her when . . .’ Guaranteed.” Also featuring local performer Damien Jurado.

SINGERS:  STAR ANNA, DAMIEN JURADO, MARK PICKEREL, GABE ARCHER, CARRIE AKRE
IMPROV BAND: EMILY ANN PETERSON (CELLO), STEVE NORMAN (PEDAL STEEL), SCOTT TESKE (BASS), LACEY BROWN (PERCUSSION)

+ CELLIST PAUL RUCKER backing the poets & more

SLAM POETS:  MATT GANO, ELAINA ELLIS, YOUTH SPEAKS POET

LIVE PAINTERS:  GLENN CASE (EASY STREET MURALS), NATHAN DEAN (ZOO EMPLOYEE), ANGELA LARSEN + YOUTH PAINTER FROM URBAN ARTWORKS

Yes, The Round is going to the Zoo this year!  The show goes outside each summer (Nathan’s, Greenlake, Rodstal Lane Farm past two years)… but this is definitely the biggest show ever.  A rare local lineup and very low ticket for a Zoo Tunes show ($15!). We are very honored to be invited to support the Zoo with this benefit show, especially since we’ll be near the Meerkats and Snow Leopards.
