The Westside Nearly Nekkid Norwegians !!!

nearlyplunge

In 2014, this amazing team of 20 took the Plunge, and raised over $10,000.00 for The Special Olympics of Washington.

They plunged into the frigid water at Golden Gardens and almost froze their Viking horns off… but it was worth it, and they are going to do it again. In February…

This year they have doubled their team to over 40, and are attempting to double the donations, the goal is $20,000.00!!!!!! They are currently the top fundraisers, and it would be great to keep them in the top spot! It’s less than a month away from the plunge, and already over $6000 has been raised, but there’s alot more to go!!!

One way to help is to donate through their fundraising page.  You may donate to the whole team, (link below)  or  click on team member  Erik Johnson, the team captain, to help him stay in the lead of top fundraisers for the event.

Nikki Hill in Seattle! Highway 99 Blues Club. Don’t miss this amazing singer! Fri. Dec 7

Those who have seen Nikki Hill sing her ass off agree—this isn’t just another newcomer on the scene, this is a ‘whiplash’ moment. Where did this fireball come from? Why haven’t I heard of her before? If you haven’t heard of Nikki Hill yet, you soon will, and once you see her perform, you won’t forget her.
Hill draws on vintage female rhythm and blues influences such as LaVern Baker, Etta James and Ruth Brown, as well as some of her favorite male singers Otis Redding and Solomon Burke, without being stuck or pigeonholed strictly as a ‘retro’ artist. Her tough vocal style fits with contemporary sensibilities yet evokes all the great blues shouters of previous decades. With the success of similar artists such as Amy Winehouse or Imelda May, Hill is poised to blaze her own trail in their wake.
Hailing from Durham, North Carolina, Nikki comes by her Deep South soul honestly. Her musical roots began while singing in gospel choirs at church. A stint living in nearby college town Chapel Hill introduced her to many different styles of music and the awareness of music (and more importantly, unique and non-mainstream music) as a possible career. After pairing up with her guitar-playing husband Matt Hill, they promptly relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, where they have established themselves as roots rock, rhythm and blues powerhouses!
Recently creating a whirlwind of excitement following her performances at the Viva Las Vegas festival (the largest roots music festival in the United States), Nikki Hill is currently anticipating the release of her first recording. Following the release of her debut effort, Hill plans to extensively tour the United States and Europe for the remainder of 2012 and well into 2013, spreading her message of down-home dirty R&B to believers and new converts everywhere.
If you haven’t heard of her yet, prepare for your ‘whiplash moment’—you have been warned.
Nikki Hill has arrived and will be playing Friday, December 7 at Highway 99 Blues Club in Seattle. Go here for reservation information

When the icons- the always talkative Jo Leene Dodge (Melene Marie Brown) and permanently mute Betty Petty (Kimberly Layfield) take Vanessa to a rukus rockabilly house party, a stange light appears from the sky, and people start to feel sick. The party ends in a vicious brawl between Jo Leene and jealous rival Vikki Lee (Heather Lewis).

The next day Jo Leene is accused of killing Vikki Lee, whohas dissappeared with only her severed fingers found on the seat of her wrecked car. As more people turn up missing or murdered Anywhere’s only detective- Detective LLoyd (Jimmi Davies) soon realizes that this is not a simple murder case, but something much, much bigger…

Don’t Miss The B-Stars! Friday March 11,Highway 99 Blues Club Seattle!

The B-Stars are a San Francisco-based country band that stirs up a hearty stew of honky tonk and hillbilly hits for your listening and dancing pleasure. With nods to the country and western stars of the late 1940s and 1950s, these sharp-suited jukebox honky tonkers will be singin’ and swingin’ ‘til the break of dawn.

The B-Stars began in late 2005 when Greg Yanito moved from his native Ohio roots to San Francisco and teamed up with upright bassist Eric Reedy to dust off old forgotten hillbilly songs. In the process, Mikiya Matsuda and Billy “JL” Zelinski jumped on board, and the band began to bring to life original material that not only tells a story, but sits comfortably right alongside the country music from the middle of the 20th Century. With two strong songwriters and a a few generations worth of musical experience, The B-Stars started off on a mission to get the dance floors jumpin’ with that western boogie beat. What has come out of that mission straddles the line between jazz and country western music pioneered by the likes of Lefty Frizzell, Carl Smith, Hank Penny, Tommy Duncan, Bob Wills, and of course the great Hank Williams Sr.

The current lineup features two lead vocalists, acoustic rhythm guitar, steel and electric guitar, a slappin’ gut stringed upright bass, and a swingin’ drummer, to establish a minimal but complete country combo. With a debut album produced by Lee Jeffriess, the steel guitar master behind Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys, and three consecutive appearances at Viva Las Vegas, The B-Stars have begun to establish an international audience that just can’t get enough of that hillbilly beat!
Come down to Highway 99 and cut a rug with 3 Great bands! The B-Stars from San Francisco, Petunia and the Vipers from Vancouver BC and Seattle’s own Roy Kay Combo. Put on your dancing shoes! Please be sure to make table reservations by contacting Highway 99 here http://highway99blues.com/index.php?option=com_extcalendar&Itemid=41

Kim Lenz in Seattle, One Night only!

nextblue3

By Chris Morris

Yes, It’s All True: KIM LENZ is back.

The titian-haired, vivacious Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter-guitarist established herself as the top modern rockabilly songstress with a pair of widely praised albums for Hightone Records and rapturously received performances across the States and in Europe; Rolling Stone raved, “If Elvis had been a woman, he probably would have sounded just like Kim Lenz.”

After a recording and performing hiatus that left fans panting for her return, Kim is back in the groove with her best recorded work yet, the album It’s All True, which she produced herself and is releasing on her own Riley Records imprint. The new collection is a flaming slab of fuel-injected contemporary rockabilly that handsomely shows off Kim’s sass, energy, and romp-stomping vocal chops. It secures her position in the small pantheon of great female rockabilly singers that includes Wanda Jackson and the late Janis Martin – singers with whom Lenz has shared many a stage. And it displays the genre’s diversity and impact.

The new album features the fearsome instrumental firepower of the reconvened Jaguars – guitarist Nick Curran, bassist Jake Erwin, and drummer Scotty Tecce – and a guest vocal appearance by Southern California’s soulful rockabilly maestro Big Sandy. The 12 tracks include seven Kim Lenz originals, a track co-written by Kim and Big Sandy, a number crafted expressly for Kim by the Lucky Stars’ Sage Guyton, and two rampaging covers.

Back in the game and ready to rock, Kim Lenz and the Jaguars will support It’s All True with live appearances around the country in the spring and summer of 2009. The album is available at retail (via Burnside Distribution), at concert dates, and from Riley Records.

I just got the chance to see this fabulous rockabilly filly in Las Vegas, and I’m ready to see her again!  She puts on a great show.  Hope to see you there!  Bring the kids, since it’s an all ages show!

SATURDAY APRIL 18, CLUB MOTOR 1950 1st ave s.

Doors at 8pm, show at 9 pm
