There’s been a lot of talk about famed Seattle architect Paul Thiry, lately, precipitated by the news that one of his more interesting residential homes that he designed, built out over the water in Normandy Park, must be moved or face demolition.
Nickel Brothers Moving company is trying to find a buyer for this Paul Thiry-designed home, and is selling the house for $1 if you will pay the price to have it moved to your own waterfront lot, estimated to be about $240K. The website has lots of vintage photos.
The modern conservation group Docomomo WEWA is putting out the word, and there’s been some good press in the Seattle Times about the house.
But there have been quite a few Paul Thiry-designed homes hit the market the last few years.

Currently, there’s a brick home in Denny Blaine, designed by Paul Thiry, on the market for $640K, a steal in that neighborhood, no matter what the pedigree.

The interiors of this home are mostly preserved, though the interior waterfall was turned into a glass-encased bathtub.

Recently sold was this 1937 Paul Thiry-designed home located in Laurelhurst. It sold for $1,150,000.

This incredible Paul Thiry home was actually built out onto the water. On the shores of Lake Washington, it offers a rare private beach, wrap around decks and a dock. Four large bedrooms, 2 smaller offices, a gracious living room with travertine fireplace. Sold for $1,750,000 just a few months ago.

This is a contemporary view home designed by Paul Thiry in 1937 in Leschi. The interiors were “modernized” but it has spectacular views of Lake Washington, Cascades & Mt. Rainier from almost every room. It sold a few years ago for $1,180,000.

This Paul Thiry also sold last year for $1,142,000 and is located in Leshci. Sited atop a Lake Washington hillside, the restoration retained the original architectural integrity and cool sophistication.

Here’s another Paul Thiry that recently sold, in a very secluded neighborhood of Washington Park.

Inspired by his travels, Thiry added an Asian-Continental design to this home.

Well-known for his integration of interior and exterior spaces, this home has a beautiful atrium that is original to the home.

There have been other Paul Thiry homes that have sold recently and more interior and exterior photos can be found here.
