2012 is the 50th Anniversary of Century 21, the Seattle World’s Fair. 2012 is also the 50th anniversary of the film “It Happened at the World’s Fair”, starring Elvis Presley.
Elvis came to Seattle for 10 unforgettable days and in honor of his visit, Bumbershoot is bringing Elvis back to the Seattle Center in an ELVISTRAVAGANZA of fine art, music, performance, installations, pop culture and kitsch.
For 4 days only, attendees at the Seattle arts festival “Bumbershoot” will be able to view and enjoy a virtual Elvistravaganza of original art, unique performance, interactive exhibits and installations, all honoring The King, Elvis Presley. A preview of this art show is free, noon until 9pm, Friday August 31st at the Seattle Pavilion at the Seattle Center. One can also view the show at the Bumbershoot Festival (www.Bumbershoot.org) on Sept. 1-3, 2012.

*Finnish artist Markku Laakso from the village of Koppelo in the Lapland town of Inari. Laakso’s paintings depict both clothed and nude characters and images of Elvis. The figures in traditional Lappish dress, both boys and girls, are a reference to the artist’s northern heritage, while the ambiguous Elvis appears as the subject of adoration and critical examination at the same time. http://www.markkulaakso.com/info_eng.php
