Bherd Studios Gallery presents “Pretty, Sexy, Dirty Girly", a multimedia exhibition of all female artists addressing the topic of feminine sexuality, curated by Seattle artist, Siolo Thompson. The exhibit opens on Friday, February 10th and includes everything from pin up photographs and figurative paintings and illustrations to pieces that will challenge the viewer to look beyond the surface of the work and examine their reactions and interactions with the work and the artists. For example, Maggie Schneider, one of the artists will perform "pants. dance. revolution," where she will dance in her underwear inside the gallery while listening to music that only she can hear. Her performance will thrust the audience into a voyeuristic role asking the viewer to examine how they feel about this type of public expression.

Another featured artist, Andie deRoux, who has worked as a model and been photographed by a wide array of fashion and fetish photographers, is also a transsexual female. Andie brings an important and individual perspective to the exhibit through the opportunity to understand her unique version of feminine sexuality. In addition, burlesque performers Lyla la Coeur and Cherry Manhattan will perform during the exhibits artist opening. Burlesque and its recent explosion in popularity represent a powerful antithesis to the 'ideal' version of female sexuality that society typically promotes.

“Buy Dirty Art for a Clean Cause”
Attendee’s will have two chances to support a “clean cause”. The gallery will be holding a raffle AND will be a collection station for bringing new socks, laundry soap, toothbrushes and other hygiene items to support the Urban Rest Stop. The Urban Rest Stop in Seattle is a charity that provides a clean, safe and welcoming facility where individuals and families in need can come and use restrooms, shower and laundry facilities. They are an important service that has benefited thousands of homeless and needy folks over the years and these services have been provided at no cost to patrons.

“Pretty, Sexy, Dirty Girly” opens on Friday, February 10th with an artist reception from 6pm – 10pm. The exhibit will continue through Friday, March 2nd and can be viewed during regular gallery hours Wednesday – Friday from noon -6pm. All participating artists include: Andie deRoux, Crystal Barbre, Jackie Kingsbury, Niffer Calderwood, Cat Davis, Maggie Schneider, Debora Spencer, Jenn Brisson, Sadie Beaudett, Jenny Dayton and burlesque performances by Lyla la Coeur and Cherry Manhattan.

Bherd Studios Gallery is an urban and contemporary art gallery featuring emerging and mid-career artists from the Pacific NW. Our mission is to provide these artists with a voice to “Bherd” & Be seen. We are located in the heart of Greenwood inside the eclectic Greenwood Collective building. Gallery Hours: Wed - Fri from 12-6pm & every 2nd Friday from 6-10pm and by appointment. We have been in operation since 2006 and will be celebrating 5 years of gallery exhibitions in March 2012.

"SCERD" A first art show by Lelah Maupin.
Opens Thurs, Jan, 12th 5-8:30pm
Ghost Gallery, Corner of E Denny Way & Summit/Olive
Curated by Laurie Kearney & C. M. Ruiz

Lelah is a local artist & musician who has long occupied Seattle's young creative community. She is the drummer in a band called TacocaT, but has always mixed in her artistic endeavors when and where she could- doing posters, record cover art, and tour diaries. Recently, she blossomed on a project doing a banner for her band where she used her knowledge of typography, color theory, and composition to create an instantly recognizable visual identity. After carting it around the United States on tour a few times and doing another banner for a private commission, Maupin has returned to Seattle to open a show of banners expressing far more personal thoughts, ideas, and feelings. Each banner as a piece will be seen as small fragments of her humor and personality but taken as a whole all of the pieces will reflect a enormous self portrait of Maupin's brain. The beauty of the show overall will be that doing such visual typography pieces, Maupin strips any misinterpretation; every one of the pieces speaking volumes with a few simple words.

DJ Club POP!
It will be super fun!
After Party TBA
