In this fresh take on Richard O’Brien’s stage production of The Rocky Horror Show, forget everything you know of the movie and prepare yourself to enter into someone’s dirty little secret.
While on the way to visit a friend, Brad and Janet run into car troubles and find themselves captive to someone else’s idea of “hospitality”. Dr. Frank ‘N’ Furter and his servants invite the young couple into their home for a night of science experiments including experimentation of the flesh. In this down and dirty rock version of the cult classic, madness really does take control as minds and bodies are bent and no one will ever be the same.
COSTUMES ARE ENCOURAGED! HOWEVER – WATER GUNS/RICE/ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE THROWN AT CAST IS PROHIBITED FOR THE ACTORS’ SAFETY. Thank you!

Open Circle Theater is pleased to announce the world premiere of “The Cut”.
A man has found himself in a dismal situation, paying street hustlers to shave their heads. Knowing it’s the only way he feels fulfilled emotionally and sexually, he thrusts himself directly onto that destructive path, which threatens to destroy him, but he can’t stop. When he’s alone, he retreats to a secret world he created during his childhood where a doll is his closest confidante and the desire to cut hair at a very young age grows into a dangerous compulsion.
Adapted by OCT Associate Artistic Director, Dustin Engstrom, from the recently published memoir, Shorn: Toys to Men, by Dennis Milam Bensie, the world-premiere play, “The Cut”, takes you on a dark and unusual journey of a man’s desperate need for control, self-acceptance and love.

This hilarious live stage show combines all the elements of the cult classic horror films Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness to make one of the craziest theatrical experiences of all time. Five college students go to an abandoned cabin in the woods, and accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them all into demons. It’s all up to Ash (a housewares employee, turned demon killing hero), and his trusty chainsaw to save the day. Blood flies. Limbs are dismembered. Demons tell jokes… and all is set to music. If you liked Bat Boy: The Musical, you’ll love Evil Dead!

STUDIES IN EVERYTHING . MEMORY
Juanita Bay Park, Kirkland, WA
1-6PM Saturday 23 October
Free, open air, all-weather, multi-artist performance event
Our collective set of memories is who we are. Some say it is our only possession. We think of memory as a purse, as a sieve, as an artist and as a politician. Elizabeth Bowen tells us of memory’s charms, “The charm, one might say the genius of memory, is that it is choosy, chancy, and temperamental: it rejects the edifying cathedral and indelibly photographs the small boy outside, chewing a hunk of melon in the dust.” Join us Saturday 23 October in Juanita Bay Park for a half-day of artist studies—choosing, testing, taking chances, rejecting and collecting vivid photographs. Artists & artist studies include:
A K MIMI ALLIN — *My Happy Life
CLINTON LEE BLISS — *Memory Spool
ANNE DEJARNETTE — *Memory Box
VANESSA DEWOLF — over&over-again&again
CHIN HUA CATHERINE DONG — It Is the Way of Being
MAUREEN “MOMO” FREEHILL — *Study in Dark (score only, artist not present)
JEAN HINDLE with CYRUS & CHLOE KHAMBATTA, CHRISTIAN SWENSON, HARUKO NISHIMURA, DIANA GARCIA-SNYDER & ETIENNE CAKPO | Memory?
KARL S. MONROE — *Meditating on the Consciousness & Memory of Trees
AARON SILVERBERG — *How We Die
STUDIES IN EVERYTHING is a migrating, quarterly event collecting
artists from various genres to offer individual and group studies on
specific topics in select places. Our 4th event of 2010 is focused on
memory and takes place in Juanita Bay Park (Kirkland, WA). “Studies in Memory” involves 15 artists–working in performance, movement, installation, butoh and music–engaged in ten studies between 1-6pm on Saturday 23 October. Studies marked with an asterisk offer an opportunity for participation. Pick up a map & schedule at either entrance to the causeway on the day of the event. Studies are overlapping & continuous. Open Circle Theater brings you its 8th annual production of H.P. Lovecraft with Pickman’s Model.
People have been going missing in Pioneer Square. Some of them turn up horribly mutilated. It is the night of the unveiling of the latest and greatest painting by Richard Upton Pickman, Seattle’s self-proclaimed “premiere artiste morbid” in a struggling Pioneer Square gallery. But something is not right. Following a strangely disturbing and somehow toxic musical performance art piece, the painting, Ghoul Feeding, is unveiled and is met, not with amazement and artistic acclaim, but with terror, physical revulsion, and insanity in all who view it. All that is, except for Pickman himself who is strangely elated. Pickman vanishes leaving only questions: Where is Pickman? How is this connected to the disappearances? What has Pickman been doing in a series of mysterious tunnels beneath the Old Seattle Underground? Vivian Thurber, Pickman’s agent, and Danyeris Eliot, a photojournalist, cannot rest until they find out, but what they find out threatens both their lives and their sanity.

Open Circle Theater is excited to bring you our first show of the season, Arcana. A collection of six short plays and two monologues by John Longenbaugh and inspired by the Major Arcana of the Tarot, Arcana mixes comedy and pathos, fantasy and poetry that take the temperature of male/female relationships in the first decade of the new Millennium. The leader of the Holy Roman Empire (yes, it still exists) tries a more non-conventional way to find connection; the new Pope brings a surprising change to the Vatican – and a love for Macy Gray; and thin walls reveal more about your neighbors than you expected.
Individual pieces of Arcana have been performed at 14/48, 24 Hour Theatre, Little Red Studio, Northwest Playwrights Alliance and LA’s New Stages and been published in Plays and Poems, North by Northwest, and Cirque Literary Quarterly.
Open Circle Theater is proud to be the first to present eight of the 22 pieces as a cycle reflected in the talents of five Seattle directors including the playwright.

Open Circle Theater is pleased to present the stage adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s cult Discworld novel WYRD SISTERS, having its Seattle premiere June 25 thru July 17.
Wyrd Sisters takes Macbeth and then turns it up ‘till the knob comes off (with healthy doses of Hamlet, Lear and Richard III implied as well). It’s all there – a wicked duke and duchess, the ghost of the murdered king, dim soldiers, strolling players, a land in peril. And who stands between the Kingdom and destruction? Three powerful witches and a cartload of puns, jokes and lampooning. It’s “the Scottish play” from the witches perspective.
Terry Pratchett is the well known author of the Discworld novels, currently at 37 books and growing. The books are broad comic fantasies that follow actions in a place called Discworld, a vaguely medieval place, which is a flat world balanced on the back of four elephants and which is, in turn, on the back of a giant turtle. Each book is set in a different part of the Disc and generally parodies or is inspired by a different subject (“Wyrd Sisters” is MacBeth, “Maskerade” opera and Phantom, etc.). Currently the second most-read writer in the UK and seventh non-US author most-read in the US, Terry Pratchett and the Discworld series have gained an international cult following.

The Seattle Trike Race was founded on little more than a dream to create a beer and trike race at a bike rally. Now in it’s 3rd year – we are donating any money raised to the Seattle Riders biker down fund, basically, a rainy day fund.
Suggested donation per racer, gawker, photographer, laugh and pointer: $5.00
We meet at Targy’s Tavern on the top of Queen Anne at 1pm. The race starts at 2:30pm. The race will start at 7th and Blaine. We will walk our trikes up to the starting line at 7th/Blaine this year, as that first hill is kind of a pain. We end at the streamline where they will have a beer special waiting for us thirsty trikers. Remember to contribute your $5.00 race fee towards the Seattle Rider biker down fund.

Tasty’s Art Party to crash 15th Annual Greenwood-Phinney ArtWalk Friday May 14, 6-9pm
Seattle’s newest art gallery, boutique and bobble-head Mecca, Tasty, will host more than 35 Seattle-area artists May 14, from 6 – 9 p.m. and May 15, from noon to 5 p.m., as part of Greenwood-Phinney’s 15th Annual ArtWalk Celebration.
“Curi-oddities” will feature works by guest artist Jody Joldersma and a cadre of 15 equally unorthodox local artisans who celebrate the Odd. Employing original techniques that incorporate Playdough, paper mache, found objects and organic materials, featured artist Joldersma has a penchant for dark, religious themes, the world of dreams and the subconscious, and things with faces as well as fur.
The show also will showcase all that Tasty has to offer, including “vulva caliente” revealed Friday night by local chocolatier, Tiberio of La Figa. The recently-opened emporium is brimming with original art, jewelry, ceramic and metal sculpture, mosaics, handbags, toys, clothing accessories, and a carefully-selected trove of collectibles.
Tasty emerges on the scene as the Greenwood-Phinny ArtWalk celebrates its 15th year. Designed to promote the arts and businesses in the area, ArtWalk is a popular neighborhood party and this year features more than 100 artists in 60 businesses along Greenwood and Phinney Avenues between 60th and 87th Streets. Friday night artwalkers will have an opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy a variety of entertainment, including intimate musical performances hosted by participating businesses.
ArtWalk maps will be available the week of the event by visiting the area’s shops and at the Greenwood Neighborhood Service Center at 8515 Greenwood, the Greenwood Library at 8016 Greenwood, and at the Phinney Neighborhood Center, 6532 Phinney Ave N.

Part I: Better with Time: Creativity and Aging
Saturday, April 24, 2010 :: 2–4pm
Is there any doubt that art and art-making nourish and sustain both artist and community? Is there no bigger fear for artists than having to one day give up their art? Does society benefit from artists who create art throughout their lifetime? Join us for this multidisciplinary panel of senior artists that have continued to create new work through the tides of personal and societal change.
Moderator: Anne Focke, Arts Consultant
Panelists: Akio Takamori, Sculptor; Donald Byrd, Choreographer and Artistic Director, Spectrum Dance Theater; Jini Dellaccio, Photographer
::
Part II: Now and Forever: Legacy Planning for Artists
Saturday, May 22, 2010 :: 2–4pm
Legacy is a powerhouse of a word that many artists shy away from misguidedly. Not realizing the necessity of legacy planning has undoubtedly led to many lost collections of individual artist’s work. Without advance directives from the artist on how their works should be handled after they shuffle off this mortal coil, volumes of work may be dismantled, disassembled, erased, left to waste, inappropriately donated or even discarded. A life’s work lost. All artists, no matter their status or quantity of work produced, should be well-versed on creating a plan for their life’s work. This presentation will inform artists about legacy planning: what it is; why it is important; and define best practices.
Moderator: Marcie Sillman, Senior Reporter, KUOW
Panelists: Tim Detweiler, Executive Director, James W. Washington, Jr. and Janie Rogella Washington Foundation; Patti Warashina, Artist, Executrix of the estate of artist Robert Sperry.

Part III: Where There’s A Will There’s A Way:
A Guide to Estate Planning for Artists
Saturday, June 19, 2010 :: 2–4pm
Like most people, it is not uncommon for some artists to approach the topic of estate planning with trepidation. And it’s not to be unexpected, given that estate planning involves an unflinching look at not just one’s life as it was, is, and may be—but also that it will one day no longer be at all. Fortunately, anxiety frequently caused by this topic is often remedied through knowledge. This segment of the series will assemble a team of professionals well-versed in how to dispense helping spoonfuls of knowledge. Topics such as how to assemble an estate planning team including an attorney, executor and accountant; costs of planning an estate; and more will be discussed. Get ready to take lots of notes and learn all about planning your estate.
Moderator: Bill Zook, Vice-President, PG Calc
Panelists: Claudia Bach, Principal, AdvisArts, Executrix of the estate of artist Yvonne Twining Humber; Janis Blauer-Chima, Janco Fiduciary & Estate Services; Lynn Schirmer, Artist, Executrix of the estate of artist Su Job.

“Will you play with me?” Poona asked her Fairy God Penis.
“Oh no, that would be explicit and inappropriate, and my federal funding prevents me from doing anything that might be educational or helpful to you later in life. But if you’d like a sandwich? Or a copy of the New Testament?”
Jeff Goode’s POONA THE F*KDOG and other plays for children is, quite literally children’s theatre for grown-ups. Considered too shocking for the theater that originally commissioned it, Open Circle Theater premiered Poona ten years ago. Constructed in classic storybook style, Goode’s fairy tales unfolds with a hysterical punch that keeps the audience off-guard and howling with laughter. The central story is, of course, The Adventures of Poona, about a lonely girl’s quest to find someone to play in her big pink box.
No one is spared in Poona’s leg-humping assault on the power of language.

Lushy will be playing in the Musicquarium at the Triple Door starting March 30 and then every Tuesday in April as part of SIFF’s Speakeasy film series San Francisco. NO COVER!
Remy, SIFF and the Triple Door are pleased to announce the second edition of our Speakeasy series that will run each Tuesday from 3/30 to 4/27, this time celebrating the lovely city of San Francisco.
SIFF has chosen two more outstanding films: Ray Harryhausen’s vintage Sci-Fi classic It Came From Beneath the Sea (1955) and the Bogart/Bacall noir thriller Dark Passage (1947).
This time around, local 10 piece ‘progressive cocktail pop’ outfit Lushy will provide the musical accompaniment, laying their horn & percussion driven compositions over the dynamic visuals of both films.
Our resident mixologist Brian McKay has updated the vintage cocktail list for this series with some outstanding new additions, as well as retaining the favorites from the Chicago edition.
In addition, Seattle’s purveyor of all things classy, Paula the Swedish Housewife, will be curating some additional atmospheric nods to everyone’s favorite city by the bay: Tippy Hedron in the flesh, sashaying flower girls and other delightful eye candy shall abound.
Please join us for the exclusive launch of Speakeasy SF on Tuesday 3/30. Films show at 8 and 10PM: ‘It came from beneath the sea’ at 8 and ‘Dark Passage’ at 10.

MEAI Third Annual Shimmython! 2010
Nico Surings of the Netherlands ran 100m barefoot on ice in 17.35 seconds, and Russ Prager of the US played the drums for 120 hours, both having won titles from Guinness World Records. But how long can a belly dancer shimmy? Seattle is about to find out, as Middle East Arts International (MEAI) hosts the MEAI Third Annual Shimmython! 2010 on April 18.
This family friendly event is to take place at the Bitterlake Community Center, as professional and novice dancers alike gather for this annual event. Professional belly dancer, Dahlia, who holds the title 2007 Belly Dancer of the Universe, was last year’s winner, having sustained a hip shimmy for 1 hour and 41 minutes. MEAI board member and event organizer, Rebecca Moslo, says, “This year we’re planning for an even bigger crowd. We have a trained judge panel and contestants are collecting pledges in anticipation of the event. The Shimmython! is an important fund raiser for MEAI, enabling the organization to produce theatrical productions featuring Middle Eastern music and dance and to provide educational outreach to the community.”
The marathon will begin promptly at 2:30pm with contestants registering and submitting their pledges beginning at 2:00pm. Spectators are welcome to attend and are encouraged to cheer on their favorite dancer. For more information about the event, visit http://www.MiddleEastArts.org.

Immodesty Blaize and The West Coast Premier of the documentary “Burlesque Undressed”! March 23
“An evening of Glamour, History, Sizzling Hot Ladies and Celluloid”, Seattle debut performance of Britain’s Crown Jewel of Burlesque – Immodesty Blaize “Miss Exotic World 2007″ and West Coast Premiere of the documentary “Burlesque Undressed”.
Burlesque has shimmied itself into the mainstream ever so slyly that now even Cher and Christina are hopping on the bump and grind wagon! But before Hollywood goes all mainstream with their interpretation of the Art of Burlesque, there are now quite a few documentaries on the subject from different view points and perspectives that you should make yourself familiar with.
“Burlesque Undressed” Directed and written By Allison Grist is a great addition to this growing genera in film and is a loving look into the history, costumes, the current bombastic explosion of Burlesque, with historical film clips and interviews with costumers, historians and several of the beautiful and original Ladies of Golden Era of Burlesque including Joan Arline.
Miss Indigo Blue is featured in Golden Echo’s ” A Wink and A Smile,” the debut film by local director and writer Deirdre Timmons, a love letter to the Seattle Burlesque scene, which ran in theaters across North American, from the Gold Coast to the West Coast.
Dirty Martini has a documentary ” Dirty Martini and the New Burlesque” which will be making it’s World Primere at SIFF Cinema in collaboration with The Moisture Festival on March 29th.
Though not included in this evenings program due to a previous booking, I would feel amiss not mentioning that our own beloved Waxie Moon has a self-titled documentary from I Ate My Eye Films that is all about him and Boylesque, Directed by Wes Hurley, winner of The Golden Palm Award at The Mexico International Film Festival and Audience Award at The Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.
7:00PM – Screening of “Burlesque Undressed”

Known to many as the star of John Cameron Mitchell’s film Short Bus, Singer, Songwriter, Provocateur, Tony and GLAAD nominated performance artist Justin Bond is an Obie, Bessie and Ethyl Eichelberger Award winner. Several of the songs on this album were part of the amazing performance given last year at The Triple Door show that only concluded after three standing ovations and encores. You should all buy it! Artist Trust is embarking on a series of events centered on the topic of arts and aging. Estate planning, legacy planning and much more will be addressed in this series.

The themes of the Artists’ Networking Events are a starting point for conversations and interactions that lead to introductions, possible collaborations and in general – networking! The events bring artists together, introduce them to the many resources in the Resource Room and provide information on services available through Artist Trust’s Professional Resources and Financial Grant Programs.
All are invited to any of the events. Come check out our facility, interact with other artists, and enjoy coffee and treats.

What’s better than Christmas?
Christmas on Skates!
Join the Rat City Rollergirls for a fun family event, Skatemas 09, on December 6 at Bellevue Skate King from 6:30 — 8:30 pm.
The evening will include fun games like snowball toss, candy run, and gift un-wrap relay and, of course, roller skating!
Cost is $8, which includes admission and skate rental.
Want to help kids in need enjoy the holiday season? We do! That’s why we’re inviting our fans and friends to bring a new, unwrapped present (or two or three!) to donate to DAWN (Domestic Abuse Women’s Network). Let’s brighten the lives of kids in need.
If you need a little extra enticement, here’s a little secret: Some of the Rat City Rollergirls are elves on loan from North Pole. Come find out which ones when you get your picture taken with Santa in our winter wonder land.
Happy holidays! Come celebrate with us!
