Tiki Kon VI – Portland – Sat June 28th
In the early parts of this century, some creative and thirsty Stumptowners contemplated how to turn their tiki crawl into a weekend event when they only had two tiki bars in town. Such necessities mothered the fabulous invention of the home tiki bar tour. Rent a bus, fill it rum-soaked, loudly dressed tiki aficionados, haul them between Portland’s finest home tiki bars — and a great event was born.
The great Northwest Tiki Crawl, lately known as Tiki Kon, grew to include sponsors, bands, tiki craftsmen and other vendors, and afterhours hotel room craziness at the swanky Jupiter Hotel. It inspired other events such as our own Seattle Home Bar Tour. This year’s Tiki Kon is a scaled down affair, one day only, and with a focus on the fine art of the cocktail. The bus tour remains and includes stops at The Alibi and Thatch, but seating is limited.
