Greg Lundgren, artist and owner of Lundgren Monuments, is opening the first-ever Death Boutique in Seattle. Not as grim as it sounds, he’s partnered with other artists to create original works of art and cremation urns for the ashes of loved ones. You can view Greg’s monuments and beautiful and original art d’death by Arne Pihl, Stefan Gulassa, John Ellefson, Tim Foss, Roy McMakin, Michael Leavitt, Charles Krafft, Alan Hurley, Jesse Edwards and Matthew Richter at the new boutique on First Hill.
I have been making glass headstones for five years now, and just recently started designing urns. In opening a boutique, I decided that it would be best to present not only my work, but other progressive artists and companies that together could change an out dated model of how we deal with death. As a culture, we have a natural instinct to avoid, hide, block out and generally ignore our own mortality. This boutique stands to confront these issues with art, style and diversity. And over the course of time, we plan on collaborating and curating a wide variety of performance, sculpture and painting to push the boundaries and very nature of grieving, mortality and contemporary art.
Lundgren Monuments boutique is located at 1011 Boren Avenue, just north of Madison near The Hideout, and you can attend previews Wednesday and Thursday, June 11 and 12, from 4pm until 8pm. Regular hours will be 11:00 to 6:00 Tuesday through Saturday.
